Breeding

Breeding, as mentioned in the magic guide, is possibly one of the most common uses for magic within the Bound! Y’see, when two dopalines love each other very much-

They combine their raw magical energy to bring new life into the world. A dopaline doesn’t need to have mastered any specific form of magic to be able to breed, as the magic used for breeding isn’t elemental nor scientific(though some argue it could be an element, the element of looove~), though it’s still recommended they do their research before diving into it!

The Lore

cuddles.png

It’s said it takes two to tango - though there isn’t necessarily any dancing involved. No, as stated above, two dopalines will simply take as much magic as possible from the air and try to concentrate it into one place. Some say touching gears helps the process, while others may simply hold their palms against each other.

The result still tends to be the same - one focused cuddle and you’ve got a glowing orb between you two. A child! This isn’t necessarily an egg, but many tend to nickname it as such. Some also nickname it a doplet, due to its slightly damp feeling and the fact it’s a little dopal in the making!

But Why Breed?

Yes, I hear you asking - why should I breed dopalines together when I can simply make a MYO and say it’s my dopal’s kid?

Well, there’s quite a few reasons! By breeding, you can get:

  • Up to 4 new dopals!

  • Cool Plot Opportunities

  • Breeding Specific Mutations

  • Inherited magic!

  • And so much more!

But before you can breed, there’s a couple rules and notes to keep in mind:

  • Your dopaline must be an ADULT to breed.

  • Once bred, a dopaline will go on a 2 week cooldown

  • Every member has 2 free breeding slots. Once those are used up, you’ll have to get yourself a Junior Annual Pass, either through events or with some Gibits!

  • When breeding two different user’s dops, explicit consent is required(shown through a reaction on the submission). Explicit consent is also required within the lore.

  • Your dopaline must have at least 1 functioning gear to breed. Cracked Gears still function, just unstably.

  • Only one user should submit the breeding request, and only one user’s slot & item(s) will be used, however both dopals involved will go on cooldown. This means you and someone else could breed 2 dops together 4 times for free!

  • The ‘doplet(s)’ will go to the user who submitted the breeding request. If a breeding involves 2 users, it is expected that they will have discussed beforehand how they’ll be distributing the results - whether one keeps an only child, they split twins or quadruplets equally, take one each and perhaps raffle off or gift the others to other members, etc.

  • Dopalines can breed regardless of gender and subspecies, however only 2 dops may be involved in a breeding. For poly relationships, we suggest taking turns!

  • Users are eligible for 1 free reroll per breeding. Please be aware, however, that upon requesting a reroll, the previous roll becomes voided and you'll be required to use the rerolled dop(s).

Boosting Chances?

Well well well, you want to make your breeding extra special?

There’s two ways you can achieve this!

The first way is rather simple; with the items below!

Boundless Logo.png

Booster Tonic

A sweet-tasting tonic that’s said to boost the chances of a dopal inheriting rarer traits from their parents, such as more upgrades or inherited magic!

Magic Boon

An item said to boost the chances of a dopal inheriting magic from their parents!

Boundless Logo.png

Feature Fruit

A sweet fruit said to boost the chances of a dopal inheriting more upgrades or gaining mutations!

Boundless Logo.png

The second way is to complete the prompts below! If you’re breeding your dopaline with another user’s it’s recommended you collaborate!

This doesn’t increase the raw odds, however it does grant you a modifier to your rolls - e.g. if you do the Magic Boost prompt, the rolls regarding magic inheritance will have 5 added to them!(So say we roll a 6, the roll would actually be 11!)

This means you can also complete the prompts and use items to both boost the raw odds AND gain a modifier on your breeding rolls! Sweet!

Also, I heard a rumour that if you say, complete the 1st prompt, then complete the 2nd or 3rd prompts, then your magic inheritance and/or upgrade inheritance may get a +10 modifier ;)

Prompt 1: First Date

This prompt grants a modifier to the entire breeding!

The piece should be 2 Complex Shaded Fullbodies with a complex background OR a piece that earns the equivalent amount of EXP(150)

Depict the dopalines involved on their first date! Is it your typical fancy dinner, or perhaps a fun day out at the arcade? Are they awkward, or do they click like puzzle pieces?

Prompt 2: Trade-Off!

This prompt grants a modifier to magic inheritance!

This piece should be 2 Simple Shaded Fullbodies with a Simple Background OR a piece that earns the equivalent amount of EXP(95)

Depict the dopalines involved afflicted with the Trade-Off effect! Are they embarrassed, scared, or perhaps amused?

Prompt 3: Confession?

This prompt grants a modifier to upgrade inheritance and mutations!

This piece should be 2 Simple Shaded Fullbodies with a Simple Background OR a piece that earns the equivalent amount of EXP(95)

Depict the dopalines involved confessing their feelings to each other! Who confesses first? Do they take them out on a date to a nice location, or just show up at their doorstep with gifts?

Abnormalities

Breeding isn’t always going to result in perfect babies. The most obvious sign of this is certain mutations that only pop up in breeding - the main ones being 3 Wings, Mismatched Upgrade Stages, and No Gear.

All three(+ some more!) will be explained on the mutations page of the site, however there’s a little something extra to be mentioned about No Gear!

 No Gear is an extremely rare mutation, and in the olden times was considered a death sentence to any dopal born with it. However, with new eras come modern medicine, and thus a new item has been created to give these kids a fighting chance at life;

The Phylac

Pictured below, a phylac(taken from the word phylactery, as it’s jokingly said to keep one’s soul in an object separate from the body) is a piece of medical equipment created to do the job of a gear. Normally, a dopaline will be required to buy one if they happen to lose their gear and survive, but as one cannot predict when No Gear will occur in their offspring, all bred dopals born with No Gear will be given a FREE phylac.

A dopaline without a gear or phylac cannot perform activities like magic or breeding.

When submitting a bred dopal with a phylac, please follow the rules below regarding its design!:

  • A phylac may either have a thin band, or a thick metal band.

  • A phylac may be in any location a gear can be located, as long as the soul vial(the shaped part) is visible.

The soul vial can be any simple shape. The outer shape must be metallic, while the inner shape must be the dopal’s accent colour.

You read all that? Great! To submit a breeding request, simply fill out the template pinned in #breeding-booth and a staff member will react to show they’re going to roll it! You’ll then be ping replied with your results. If you want to reroll your results, please ping reply to the staff member's message and they'll get to it!

Once your kiddo(s)’s been rolled, you’ll be given a suggested palette(It is NOT required to use, however your new dop’s palette must be colourpicked from their parents - their accent & eye colour may still be any of your choice, however.) and sent off on your way! Please make sure you draw them onto this template, then submit them down in #baby-and-grow-up-approvals!
